What a fake De Ville Lancette is
A fake De Ville Lancette is a counterfeit Omega De Ville with leaf-shaped hands. Omega is a Swiss brand started in 1848. The De Ville name appeared in 1960 and became its own line in 1967. "Lancette" is Italian for clock hands. In seller listings the word means leaf hands, also called feuille hands. It does not name a movement or a case family. Replica sellers attach the term to any De Ville style that copies this hand shape.
Omega does not sell a product called "Lancette." Genuine De Ville watches carry a reference number on the caseback, the hang tag, and the warranty card. Those numbers follow no public list that maps to replica factories.
Case and dial checks
- Case diameter. Genuine De Ville Prestige three-hand steel cases run near 39.5 mm. Copies often measure 40 mm to 42 mm.
- Date window. A genuine window sits at 3 o'clock with even margins. Copies show off-center cutouts and wrong date font.
- Hands. Leaf hands on a genuine De Ville are polished on all faces. Copies show brushed edges and flat tips.
- Logo. The Greek Omega symbol has a flat crossbar foot on genuine dials. Copies use a rounder shape or uneven spacing.
- Crown. Genuine crown carries the Omega symbol in relief. Copies stamp a shallow mark or leave it blank.
Movement
Most De Ville Lancette copies use quartz. A quartz second hand jumps once per second. Genuine De Ville three-hand models use mechanical movements with 5 to 8 beats per second, so the second hand sweeps. A quartz fake also runs with no winding and no rotor sound. Copies that do use mechanical parts often carry base ETA or Miyota movements with no Omega markings and rough finishing.
Weight and finish
Genuine steel De Ville cases and bracelets have tight end-link fit. Copies show gaps at the lugs, sharp bracelet edges, and lighter weight. Sapphire crystals resist a scratch test with a steel key. Mineral glass on a copy will scratch.
Price gap
New steel De Ville Prestige models list between about $3,000 and $6,000. Replica listings run from about $30 to $250. A price under $300 for a De Ville signals a counterfeit. Boxes and papers do not prove a watch is genuine. Copy sellers print cards and booklets.
Legal status
Counterfeit watches are illegal to import into the United States under 19 U.S.C. Section 1526. US Customs and Border Protection can seize a shipment. Selling counterfeits can bring civil damages under the Lanham Act. A "first copy" is a counterfeit under US law. No resale value exists for these watches, and no Omega service center will repair one.
What is not known
Calibers and serial ranges change by model year. No public catalog lists every fake De Ville Lancette variant. For a specific watch, ask an Omega service center to open the case and check the movement.
